HUNTINGTON CHURCH HISTORY

2003 - 2019

Huntington Church began in fall 2003 as a mission church of First Baptist Church in Jonesboro. The church met in Tessie’s Kitchen, a small restaurant on Huntington Avenue, with only six people present at the first meeting; three from First Baptist, the cook at the restaurant, and her two children.

After outgrowing Tessie’s Kitchen, the Steering Committee offered a buy/sale agreement to the City to buy the Huntington Church building. They decided not to have a fundraising campaign, but instead prayed and sent letters to individuals they believed God would have them contact. The same letter was sent by all simply asking that they pray about what God would have them do, if anything, for Huntington Church. Within a few short months, all of the money needed to purchase the building (without debt) was in the Building Fund awaiting the close of sale. God opened that door and the rest is history.

Guy Kochel was the lead pastor during the foundation and growth of Huntington Church. After his passing in 2019, Dr. Eddie Cooper was asked to fill in and preach. Towards the end of 2019, the church’s Steering Committee asked Dr. Eddie Cooper to become the lead pastor for Huntington Church.

2019 - Present

In the past several years, God has continued to work in and through Huntington Church. A board of elders was established to continue leading the church and foundational pieces were laid - social media pages, websites, brand scripts and church flow charts were established.

In the fall, we held our 2nd Annual Fall Festival in our parking lot and had more than 500 people at the event. With costumes, face paint, candy, games, and an enormous amount of hot dogs, it was by far, the largest event hosted by Huntington to date.

From Vacation Bible School to Ice Cream Socials and establishing “Cane Connect” with Jonesboro Public Schools, the past year has continued to reflect the Lord’s faithfulness to this 60 block area.

We are expectant and hopeful to see how the Lord will continue to grow Huntington Church in the years to come!
